About me
My name is Jo Lamond.
I'm a Registered Counsellor and Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner, and the person behind Brave Collective Studio.
You might be coming to counselling because you're struggling in a relationship, feeling disconnected from yourself, finding parenting harder than you expected, or noticing patterns in your life that you don't quite understand.
Whatever brings you here, I'm interested in understanding your experiences, the relationships that have shaped you, and what might be happening underneath the feelings or reactions you're experiencing.
My approach is attachment-focused, relational and neuroaffirming. This means we don't just focus on what's happening on the surface. We can explore your emotions, relationships, experiences and what your body might be communicating, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
In the counselling room, you can expect warmth, curiosity and genuine connection.
What Might We Explore Together?
Sometimes you know exactly what's bringing you to counselling. Other times, you just know that something doesn't feel right.
You might recognise yourself in some of these questions.
Relationship with Self
Why do I react so strongly, even when I don't want to?
You might notice yourself becoming angry, overwhelmed or shutting down, even when you want to respond differently. Together, we can explore what happens underneath those reactions, what activates them and what your body might be trying to protect.
Why have I lost confidence in myself?
You might find yourself second-guessing your decisions, putting everyone else's needs first or struggling to set boundaries. Counselling can help you understand what has shaped how you see yourself and begin rebuilding trust in your own needs, feelings and choices.
Why do I feel like I've lost who I am?
Somewhere between parenting, relationships, caregiving and life's responsibilities, you might feel like you've lost parts of yourself. We can make space to explore who you are beyond these roles and what feeling connected to yourself again might look like.
Relationship with Others
Why do I keep yelling at my children when that's not the parent I want to be?
You might promise yourself you'll respond differently next time, but find yourself caught in the same reactions. Rather than focusing only on the behaviour, we can explore what's happening for you, what gets activated and the patterns developing between you and your child. Together, we can work towards more moments of understanding, connection and repair.
Why don't I want my partner to touch me anymore?
You might love your partner but feel overwhelmed by touch, disconnected from intimacy or unsure why closeness feels different now. We can explore what might be contributing to these feelings, including emotional connection, relationship patterns, physical experiences and the demands of everyday life, without pressure or expectations around intimacy.
Why do I keep ending up in the same kinds of relationships?
You might notice familiar patterns of conflict, people-pleasing, withdrawing or feeling unheard. Counselling can help you understand how these patterns developed, how you've learned to protect yourself in relationships and what more secure, connected relationships might look like for you.
Relationship with the World
Why does everything feel harder than it used to?
You might feel like you're constantly giving, organising, managing and responding to everyone else's needs, with very little left for yourself. Together, we can look at what you're carrying, where your capacity is being stretched and what might help create more space in your life.
Why can't I move forward after everything that's happened?
Grief, loss and significant life changes can affect how you see yourself, your relationships and the future. You might feel stuck, disconnected or unsure how life is supposed to look now. Counselling offers space to explore what you've experienced, what you've lost and how you might begin making room for life alongside what you're carrying.
Why do I feel like I don't know where I belong anymore?
Changes in relationships, family dynamics, identity or life circumstances can leave you questioning where you fit. We can explore the roles you've taken on, the expectations you've carried and what belonging might look like when there's room for your own needs and identity too.
Where Do We Begin?
You might recognise yourself in one of these questions, or perhaps several.
You don't have to have everything figured out before reaching out. Part of counselling is having the space to explore what's happening, understand your experiences and discover what you might need moving forward.
